Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (herein RWJMS) seeks an energetic, creative and resourceful development professional to serve as its Leadership Giving Officer. As the premier academic health center for the state of NJ, the Leadership Giving Officer - RWJMS will work to identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni and grateful patient prospects to support RWJMS and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) goals. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development - RBHS and working in collaboration with the RBHS Major Gifts team, the Leadership Giving Officer - RWJMS will help identify prospective major gift donors so that together, we can more deeply engage, cultivate and solicit philanthropic support for Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The Leadership Giving Officer - RWJMS will also hold a portfolio of New Jersey based leadership annual giving donors and prospective donors from which he/she will cultivate and solicit support for RBHS including gifts up to $25,000. As a highly visible representative of RWJMS, RBHS and Rutgers at-large, the Leadership Giving Officer - RWJMS will have a deep appreciation for the diverse and impactful work done at RBHS and thoroughly understand funding raising priorities. The ideal candidate will help grow overall fundraising through teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and leadership annual giving solicitations. This is an entry-level fundraising position and an ideal role in which to learn and refine the important foundational skills necessary in becoming a major gifts officer. The candidate is expected to have a Bachelors degree and two to four years of experience within fundraising and engagement. S/he should have a solid record of consensus building and collaboration as well as experience cold calling, and/or engaging alumni/grateful patients and other constituencies. The ideal candidate will be dynamic and approachable, a self-starter, a team player, have excellent oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, an aptitude for data mining, and the ability to handle sensitive information discretely and compassionately. Create and implement systems and processes to help RBHS major gifts team engage, qualify and cultivate a large base of donors and prospective donors parents, alumni, friends and patients. Identify new prospective major gift and annual giving donors to RBHS through discovery calls and initial qualification meetings. Use technical and analytical skills to evaluate data to support three seasoned Directors of Development (DoDs) and an Associate Vice President for RBHS with portfolio penetration, donor research, and scheduling donor meetings through phone and digital channels. Professionally and thoughtfully communicate with and act as point of contact for new potential donors. Frontline Fundraiser Maintain portfolio of approximately 50-60 donors and prospective donors to achieve goals relating to core metrics, including personal visits, gift solicitations, and stage moves, to be set with and approved by supervisor. Travel across the tristate area to identify and cultivate existing and new relationships with individuals. Work closely within the RBHS team to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives around fundraising priorities. Facilitate productive relationships among donors and RBHS advancement staff, campus leadership, and faculty, in order to close gifts. Clearly articulate, in written and verbal form, the needs and priorities of RBHS. Administrative Ability to manage several development activities and strategies simultaneously while maintaining timeframes. Track and analyze short- and long-term trends in data to inform strategic decisions. Fully document prospect strategies, contact reports, gift solicitations and stewardship reports within donor databases (AWA and Salesforce). Comply with operational policies and procedures; accurately analyze and maintain reports, data and unit documents; and follow Rutgers University Foundation (RUF) policies and procedures as they relate to prospect management, solicitation and follow-up procedures. Coordinate personalized outreach and RBHS events to cultivate and steward current and prospective donors. Work with development support professionals, including prospect research, alumni records and donor relations when appropriate Engage in personal training, self-improvement, and professional development as required. Take on additional duties as requested by supervisor. Requirements Qualities of the Ideal Candidate: The Leadership Giving Officer can be expected to have the following personal characteristics and professional qualifications: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two to four years experience in advancement that can include cold-calling, solicitation experience on the phone, and/or experience with alumni relations, annual giving, etc. Experience in a higher education institution or medical institution is preferred. Ease and comfort cold calling and meeting new people. Demonstrated ability to identify and cultivate individuals. Ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality. Experience organizing and managing multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities. Must be motivated by developing partnerships and achieving success as a team. Solid knowledge of fundraising techniques. Proficient at analyzing information/situations and solving problems Personal computer proficiency required, especially as related to Microsoft Office Products; MS Word, PowerPoint and especially Excel. Computer literacy to include industry standard software (Advance and Salesforce). Computer skills may be subject to testing/verification. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in person, electronically, and on the phone, with the ability to develop, maintain, and deepen interpersonal relationships.
